Before you install
- When Android refuses the install, it is the unknown-sources guard doing it. Grant this app permission in Settings, then confirm the install when the prompt comes back.
- An "incompatible version" message usually means the build was compiled for the older ARMv7 processors that recent phones no longer accept. Look for the ARM64 (ARMv8) build of the same version instead.
Download FAQs
What does this Mobile Observatory build change?
This is the standard paid edition of Mobile Observatory. One purchase includes the complete astronomy toolkit without a subscription, including satellite tracking, deep-sky catalogs, push notifications, telescope control, and the Observing Plan Generator.
How does Mobile Observatory help with the August 12, 2026 eclipse?
Mobile Observatory shows the eclipse path for the August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse. It also provides local contact times, maximum obscuration, a rendered sky view, safety notes, and calendar actions for your location.
How are observing targets selected?
The Observing Plan Generator builds a target list from your location, date, light-pollution level, and minimum altitude. It also uses the equipment you select: naked eye, binoculars, or telescope.
Which telescope connections can Mobile Observatory use?
Mobile Observatory supports computerized telescope connections through LX200, NexStar, and INDI. You can browse objects in the app and send GoTo commands to a compatible connected telescope.
What Android version does Mobile Observatory require?
Mobile Observatory requires Android 8.0 as the minimum Android version. Version 4.7.5 includes bug fixes and stability improvements.
Nothing happens when I tap download
Refresh the page and start again — each link is signed for one visit and stops working after that. If it keeps failing, the file is probably being swapped for a newer build; give it a few minutes.
Android says "App not installed"
Usually there is already a copy of the same app on the phone, signed by someone else. Remove that copy first, then install this file — and back up anything you care about inside the app beforehand, because uninstalling wipes it.
